A wish come true

Back in December we reported that Whitney Carter from Lake Cumberland Doodle Farm and Mary Helm from 4Paws Training Academy had teamed up with Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana to donate and train a puppy for a special child.

On Friday, that wish came true for little miss Logan Jewell Dewitt (LJ for short) of Henry County who received JoJo as her wish.

“Whitney actually contacted the Make-A-Wish Foundation first about donating a puppy and then we partnered up for her to raise the puppy and then I would train it for the family that it would go to,” Helm said.

LJ was diagnosed with a type of brain tumor called a Pilomyxoid Astrocytoma during infancy that is inoperable. With chemotherapy being her only option, she has endured many treatments over the last two and a half years.

JoJo has been in training with Helm for about eight weeks and although she is not a service dog, she is housebroken and has been trained in basic obedience and to pick up on LJ’s emotional stress and ways to comfort her in her times of need.

It was very obvious that JoJo was meant for LJ during their first encounter together and that they are going to be best friends from here on out.

“If anyone ever wonders if I love what I do, here is a perfect example. We have been waiting for this day since last August. It was a very special day for all of us. I am forever grateful to Mary and the time she donated to get JoJo ready for Logan,” Carter said.

LJ’s mom, Johnna says that JoJo is settling in nicely and although she is a puppy she is very sweet and calm with LJ. She continued by saying that she cannot thank Whitney and Mary enough for all that they have done to make this dream become a reality for LJ.
