George Ison, Jr., 98

George Ison, Jr.,  age 98, died Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at his home. He was born April 14, 1922 in Jenkins, Ky to the late Steve and Nanny Ison.

He was a WWII Veteran recepient of a Purple Heart having served in the US Army from Sept 1941 to 1945.

Survived include; his wife of 67 years Laverne Grider Ison; two daughters Sheila (Dean) McKinley, Russell Springs, Kathy (Daryl) Hammond, Russell Springs; one grandson George Barton (Alison) Hammond, Lexington.

George was retired as a powerhouse operator-US Corp of Engineers Wolf Creek Dam.

He was a Mason for 60 years at the Jamestown Lodge and a member of the Russell Springs United Methodist Church.

Funeral service for George Ison, Jr. were held Friday, September 4, 2020 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel were Bro. David Coffey and Bro. Charles Edwards officiated.

Interment followed in the Mill Springs National Cemetery at Nancy.

Pallbearers: Daryl Hammond, George Barton Hammond, Dean McKinley, Logan Antle, Jim Kemplin, Glen Beussink.
